My Dell 24" monitor does not have HDCP. Does this mean I can't watch hook up a DVD Player with a DVI-D connection??
I will be using this DVD Player. It says that this player is "not HDCP compliant." Will it not matter then?

Good question. I don't know. Where does it say that the DVD player is not HDCP compliant.?
This model DVD Player has been discussed in depth on AV forums. It doesn't mention it on the Oppo website, but I just know it from various discussions. Sorry I can't seem to find the specific thread.Originally Posted by InfiniteNothing
From further research, it seems as though as long as the player is non-HDCP-compliant, it should work on a non-HDCP display. Can anybody confirm this for me?
AFAIK, HDCP only applies to HD-DVD and Blue-Ray. Regular DVD players will work fine over a DVI connection.

im taking a cue from HD cable boxes, which wont play on older HDTVs that arent HDCP-complant, if you use DVI. It forces you to use component out (since those older HDTVs didnt have HDMI then).
I dont see any reason why you cant watch DVDs on your monitor using that DVD player. your monitor being non-HDCP compliant wont/shouldnt affect DVD playback.
Usually its the transmission of HD programming (in HD cable boxes and HD satellite receivers and HD tuners) that's encrypted (or made to be HDCP-compliant), so when it talks to the DVI connection and it finds out the TV isnt compliant, then it prompts you it isnt so on screen.
Which also ties in with what GuruX said - bue ray and HD-DVD players will be HDCP-compliant also. everything points to HD content copy protection. DVDs arent in that bracket (though the way its so easy to copy them, movie companies would love to include them...).
there are pictures, but no,nothing happens on my site.
