Triband smartphone/palm phone?

My boss wants to get a Treo 700w from Verizon but he needs it to be Triband for when he travels abroad. I called Customer Service and they told me that because it is on the digital network, that it can't be triband. I don't know squat about cell technologies but I know a lot of people here do. Is it so that if it's on digital it can't be a triband phone? Are there any smartphones/palm phones/pocket PC phones that are triband for any provider?

AFAIK the only tri-band worldwide phones are GSM, provided by T-Mobile and Cingular. CDMA isn't worldwide recognized, Sprint and Verizon.

700w's are having some problems also. Not everybody likes the screen and the apparent stability isn't high. THey also won't be availible to anybody else until September timeline.

Looks like it has what I need. A cell phone that can be used world-wide, that can also receive email and view documents such as pdf's and office docs. This might be the right solution.

The t-mobile and the Cingular 8125 are good.

Yeap but T-Mobile has the MDA, which is the same phone. I would go for the SDA if he doesn't care for touch screen and keyboard.

I actually just got an 8125 about a week ago. As a Pocket PC, I love it. As a phone, it is so-so. I mean, sure, it makes calls and receives them, but with my key options being slide open the keyboard on the side or use the softkey keypad on screen, it becomes rather slow to make calls. I have added a trial of the MS Voice Command software and it is pretty good at allowing me to speak what I would key into the phone, but there are sometimes when I don't want everyone around me hearing who I am calling.

Also, there is a tool out there called lokiwiz that someone from xda-developers came up with that is used to unlock the phone. It works absolutely splendidly. I used that to unlock the phone so I could use my old AT&T sim before I was able to activate the phone with Cingular.

I just won an auction for a T-Mobile SDA and it should get here next week. I found some good sites, which show how to unlock the phone and application so I could upgrade the firmware to a newer I-mate SP5M one.

I could then change the startup/shutdown pictures/sounds and the 4 application buttons.
