    Rainbow

Ooo I saw the most awesome DOUBLE rainbow yesterday..the colors were sooooOOO bright..unlike most rainbows where you have just a hint of color in them and then they fade out. It was gorgeous. The BLUE was over the top..oh wait..that was the sky..sorry..don't see much of that around town anymore (loads of rain)..
anyway..just thought I'd post about it.

    Ohhh a poem! How sweet!..
I was looking for the pot of gold, but unfortunately, the rainbow ended directly above the payment window at the NYSEG building..what a strange coincidence.
Did you have the double rainbow in your area too Nickel..I know you've had alot of rain your way too. I could NOT believe the COLORS!

on a brighter, fluffier note though..

your location, "somewhere over the rainbow" fits into this thread so nicely and sweetly.

it can be construed that being somewhere over the rainbow has reference to drugs..I'd prefer that not be mentioned in this really nice thread. I don't want people to interfere with my happy thoughts today. (drugs are bad..mmmkay)

I'm not making the bread pudding today..I was thinking more on the lines of just some crusty old world french and possible a few dozen welch cookies..(seeing as how I bought currants last night with that exact intent)

hey...since you are an italian woman that cooks, does this joke ring true?

    ITALIAN COOKIES

For all the wonderful Italians out there, or those who are lucky enough to be married to an Italian, or to have Italian friends. An elderly Italian man lay dying in his bed. While suffering the agonies of impending death, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite Italian anisette sprinkled cookies wafting up the stairs.

Gathering his remaining strength, he lifted himself from the bed.

Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort, gripping the railing with both hands, he crawled downstairs.

With labored breath, he leaned against the door frame, gazing into the kitchen. Where if not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven, for there, spread out upon waxed paper on the kitchen table were literally hundreds of his favorite anisette sprinkled cookies.

    Was it heaven?

Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted Italian wife of sixty years, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man?

Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself towards the table, landing on his knees in a crumpled posture.

His parched lips parted, the wondrous taste of the cookie was already in his mouth, seemingly bringing him back to life.

The aged and withered hand trembled on its way to a cookie at the edge of the table, when it was suddenly smacked with a spatula by his wife........
    "Back off!" she said,
    "They're for the funeral!"

Seen it before. And fyi, we wouldn't sprinkle the annisette ON THE COOKIES..it would be baked into them, and then anise oil would be encorporated into the frosting..(which btw is always pink if it's anise flavored)..lemon is always light green, and almond is always white...it's standard in Italian households to frost in the colors (almost-the pink represents the red of the flag and the light green represents the dark green) of the Flag of Italy. What's your point..it's not like we make the cookies especially for the dead guys..hey we get lots of people stopping by after funerals..ya gotta feed them!
